Overmolding
TYM supports overmolding projects with precision substrate handling, bonding process control, mold engineering, and automation options. We help global OEM/ODM partners build strong, reliable silicone-to-substrate production solutions for medical, automotive, consumer electronics, and industrial applications.
Precision Overmolding Solutions for Durable Multi-Material Products
Overmolding is a specialized two-shot process that permanently bonds liquid silicone rubber onto rigid substrates — plastic, metal, or other materials — in a single production cycle, creating a strong, seamless, and leak-proof union between components.
This process delivers superior grip, sealing, cushioning, and aesthetic finishing without the need for secondary assembly, adhesives, or fasteners. Overmolded parts offer enhanced durability, chemical resistance, and long-term performance even under repeated mechanical stress or temperature fluctuation.
With deep expertise in substrate preparation, bonding agent selection, and precision tooling design, Guangzhou Tianyuan Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Co., Ltd. helps global manufacturers achieve consistent, high-strength LSR-to-substrate bonding at scale — from connectors and sealing rings to wearable devices and ergonomic grips.
From mold design and material compatibility testing to full-scale automated production, TYM's overmolding solutions are engineered to reduce part count, improve product reliability, and shorten your development cycle.
What Is Overmolding and How Does It Work?
Learn how overmolding bonds liquid silicone rubber onto a rigid substrate through surface treatment, primer application, precision alignment, and controlled injection — creating a durable, single-piece part for demanding multi-material applications.
Overmolding is a manufacturing process that permanently bonds liquid silicone rubber onto a rigid substrate — such as plastic or metal — using surface activation, precision alignment, and controlled injection to form a single integrated part.
Compared with separately molded and assembled components, overmolding offers:
Once bonded, the silicone-substrate interface delivers excellent flexibility, chemical resistance, and long-term durability — even under repeated mechanical stress and temperature cycling, making overmolding ideal for connectors, sealing components, and ergonomic grips.
Advantages of Overmolding
Overmolding helps manufacturers create durable, leak-proof, multi-material parts in a single production cycle — eliminating secondary assembly while improving bonding strength, sealing performance, and product consistency. With expertise in substrate compatibility, mold design, and bonding process control, TYM helps OEM/ODM partners build reliable silicone-to-substrate overmolding solutions.
Precision & Bonding Consistency
Overmolding is ideal for complex, multi-material parts requiring strong, repeatable bonding at high volume.
Excellent Bonded Material Properties
The overmolded silicone-substrate interface provides:
Overmolding is ideal for connectors, sealing components, and grips requiring stable, high-volume bonded production.
High Automation Compatibility
Overmolding is naturally compatible with automated manufacturing processes, using precision substrate placement and controlled injection to reduce human error while improving bonding consistency.
Substrate & Material Compatibility
Overmolding capability supports:
Allowing greater flexibility in product design and material combination.
Typical Applications of Overmolding
Overmolding is widely used for components that require strong silicone-to-substrate bonding, sealing performance, ergonomic grip, or multi-material integration. TYM supports OEM/ODM partners across medical, automotive, consumer electronics, and industrial applications with mold design, substrate compatibility testing, and full-process bonding support.

Single canister respirator masks rely on a soft silicone face seal permanently bonded to a rigid plastic frame. The seal must fit the face comfortably, hold an airtight seal under breathing pressure, and stay bonded through repeated use, cleaning, and disinfection. Conventional methods, such as molding the silicone separately and then gluing or mechanically assembling it, add labor, create weak bond lines, and introduce leak paths. Low-cavity overmolding with open runners also wastes expensive LSR and leaves flash and gate marks on the sealing edge that touches the skin.
