LSR Slider Mold | Mold for Undercut & Complex Geometry Parts | TYM
TYM's slider mold enables molding of undercut features and overmolded silicone parts with complex geometries.
Slider Mold: The Key Solution for Undercuts and Complex Geometries
When a product design includes features that move against the mold's opening direction — commonly known as "undercuts" — a standard straight pull-open mold cannot demold the part successfully. This is where slider mechanisms come in. A slider mold incorporates internal sliding components that move against the closing direction, automatically performing lateral core-pulling at the moment the mold opens, allowing parts with undercut features to release cleanly.
TYM's slider mold solutions are especially suited for components with difficult geometries and overmolded parts — such as silicone-to-plastic assemblies or products with side holes and bosses. We conduct mold flow analysis and slider motion path design in advance to ensure smooth, interference-free opening and closing.
Key Advantages
● Solves undercuts and side-hole structures that standard molds cannot handle
● Supports overmolding of silicone onto plastic or metal inserts
● Precisely controlled slider motion reduces tearing and flash
● Can be co-designed with thermoplastic mold sections for 2K/overmolding lines
Typical Applications Silicone parts with difficult geometries (undercuts, side holes, bosses) and composite/overmolded components.

Slider molds address features on the side of a part relative to the mold's opening direction — holes, latches, external threads, or bosses — using angled pins or hydraulic cylinders to drive lateral core-pulling for demolding. This structure is common in automotive connectors, consumer electronics housings, and diving/PPE products requiring side holes or latches.
Applications of LSR Slider Molds for Undercut Silicone Parts
LSR slider molds are used for liquid silicone rubber parts with side holes, undercuts, recessed features, or complex demolding requirements. TYM supports slider mold engineering for silicone phone cases, respirator or mask frame parts, overmolded connector seals, and other complex geometry silicone components.

FAQ
How do I know if my product needs a slider structure?
If your product design includes side holes, bosses, or undercut features that move against the mold's opening direction, a standard straight-pull mold cannot demold it cleanly, and a slider mechanism is typically needed. Share your 3D product drawings and our engineering team can assess whether a slider design is required.
Does a slider mold increase the risk of flash or parting lines on the part surface?
There is a mating surface between the slider and the main mold core, and insufficient design or machining precision can cause slight flash at the parting line. TYM machines slider mating surfaces to high precision standards and uses mold flow analysis to optimize this in advance, minimizing the risk.
Can a slider mold be used for silicone-plastic overmolded products?
Yes, this is one of the most common applications for slider molds. We design the core-pulling path based on the plastic insert's structure to ensure a secure, shift-free overmolded bond.
How much longer does a slider mold take to develop compared to a standard mold?
Due to the added motion mechanism design, machining, and trial runs, slider molds typically take longer to develop than standard molds. The exact timeline depends on product complexity and will be provided alongside our quotation.
